Johann COLLAERT (Antwerp 1545ca - 1628) "The Troglodytes attack the elephants" Original etching signed in plate in the lower center, by a subject by Johannes Stradano, part of the series "Venationes Ferarum, Avium, Piscium ..." published in Antwerp by Philipp Galle in the 1980s. Specimen in the second state of two, from the second edition enlarged to one hundred and four subjects and with the numbering in the lower left, trimmed just to the copper imprint, printed on laid paper apparently without watermark, with slight traces of oxidation on the verso but overall in excellent general condition. Bibliography: Baroni Vannucci Jan van der Straet known as Giovanni Stradano ...
